Welcome to the in-depth walkthrough for Chapter 7: Broken Control Room in “Dave the Diver.” This guide will help you navigate the challenging Giant Blue Hole, from catching exotic fish and mastering sushi preparation at Bancho Sushi to upgrading Dave’s diving gear and battling the most formidable bosses. This walkthrough contains significant story spoilers for Chapter 7, so proceed with caution if you haven’t reached this point in the game.
Introduction: Preparing for the Final Challenge
After progressing through the game, you’ll eventually reach Chapter 7, titled “Broken Control Room.” At this stage, two in-game days will pass, and you’ll receive a call from Dr. Bacon. He informs you that you should now have access to the Divine Tree Control Room. Dave, ever the pragmatic diver, reminds you that it’s essential to complete all available missions before facing the final boss. This is a crucial tip—make sure to upgrade your gear and weapons to the max and complete any lingering quests before heading into the Glacial Area.
Entering the Glacial Area: The Journey Begins
Once you’re ready, head to the Glacial Area. As you descend, you’ll notice the area is more unstable than ever, with frequent earthquakes hinting at the looming challenges. Your first task is to make your way to the Divine Tree Control Room Entrance. Dr. Bacon will confirm that the cutting is complete, and you can now proceed inside.
Navigating the Divine Tree Control Room
Inside the control room, you’ll encounter your first obstacle: a door blocked by tree sap. The initial door on the lower left is impassable, so you’ll need to find an alternative route. A snail crawling on the lower right part of the room offers the solution. Pick up the snail and place it on the stone platform connected to a chain. Doing this will raise a stone slab on the right side of the room, allowing you to pass through.
However, once you proceed to the next room, the snail will move off the platform, trapping you inside. To make matters worse, another path forward is blocked by tree sap. Fortunately, mutated Divine Tree Fruits located above the blockage can help. These fruits are your key to breaking through the sap, but be wary of the sea scorpions, or Megalogratupus, that guard them. You can choose to fight these heavily armored creatures or avoid them entirely. Once you’ve grabbed a Divine Tree Fruit, drop it on the sap to clear the way, but remember, the fruit will explode if held for too long.
Progressing Deeper: Overcoming Environmental Challenges
With the path cleared, continue downwards, but soon you’ll face another challenge: a hydrothermal vent blocking your way. The solution involves using another snail. Pick up the snail from the small platform below and drop it on the vent to temporarily block it, allowing you to pass through.
In the next room, you’ll encounter a small volcano and three smaller vents. The rocks above you are unstable and can be broken by triggering an eruption from the volcano. To do this, you need to place three snails on the vents to build up pressure. This is easier said than done, as the snails will only stay in place for a few seconds before wandering off. You’ll need to act quickly, resetting the snails if necessary until all three are in place simultaneously. Once the volcano erupts, it will shatter the rocks, opening a path above.
Grab the nearest mutated Divine Tree Fruit and use it to blow open another sap-sealed door. Beyond this door lies a series of rooms filled with black smoke vents that spew hazardous fumes. Carefully navigate these rooms by timing your movements to avoid the smoke, which can set you on fire if you’re caught. If needed, use the snails in these rooms to block the vents, giving you more time to pass through safely.
Fighting the Hatchlings: An Onslaught of Enemies
As you progress further, you’ll discover the Divine Tree’s roots covered in mucus and surrounded by eggs. Before you can react, the eggs will hatch, releasing aggressive hatchlings. If you brought a powerful weapon like the Red Sniper Rifle, these foes shouldn’t pose much of a threat. Keep an eye on your ammo and use your harpoon if necessary. After eliminating the hatchlings, use a snail to raise a stone slab and continue to the next room.
Here, you’ll face even more eggs and another mucus-covered door. The key to progressing lies in a Divine Tree Fruit laser contraption. First, pull a Divine Tree Fruit free from the roots and place it in the device to activate the laser. The moment the laser powers up, the eggs will hatch, and a swarm of hatchlings will charge at you. Use the laser to take them out, then focus it on the mucus to start melting it away. This process will repeat several times, with increasingly large groups of hatchlings attacking you after each wave. Stay alert, and keep the laser trained on the door to eventually melt the mucus completely.
Final Boss Fight: Facing Yawie
Once you’ve cleared the door, prepare yourself for the final showdown. As you enter the next room, you’ll see several hatchlings attached to the nucleus of the Divine Tree. Shoot them off to stabilize the tree. Just when you think you’re in the clear, a giant version of the hatchlings, named Yawie, will emerge from the lava.
Thankfully, Dr. Bacon and Duff’s drone arrives just in time to assist you. The drone is equipped with a laser and the ability to slow down time, which will be crucial in your fight against Yawie. As the battle begins, focus on hitting Yawie with the laser, taking out any hatchlings she summons as well.
Phase 1: Initial Assault
In the first phase, Yawie will use a mix of attacks, including summoning hatchlings and shooting green balls at you from her tail. Destroy these projectiles before they reach you, and don’t hesitate to slow down time if you need to dodge or line up your shots. Another attack involves Yawie releasing a wave of red plankton. While you can destroy some of these with your laser, it’s often easier to dodge them and keep your focus on Yawie.
Phase 2: Unleashing the Stella Laser
After dealing enough damage, a cutscene will trigger where Duff unlocks the drone’s Limiter, granting you access to the powerful Stella Laser. This weapon can be charged for a devastating attack, but be mindful that charging it slows your movement. Yawie will now add two new attacks to her repertoire: a fire beam and a lunge attack. The fire beam can’t be stopped by the Stella Laser, so you’ll need to dodge it by swimming upwards. The lunge attack can be avoided by keeping your distance and staying alert.
Phase 3: Side-Scrolling Shoot ‘Em Up
Once you’ve weakened Yawie further, the fight transitions into a side-scrolling shoot ’em up sequence. Yawie will retreat, and you must chase her while avoiding a series of new attacks, including a double-helix formation of plankton and red balls that split into smaller projectiles. Use the Stella Laser to clear a path and continue your assault on Yawie.
Phase 4: The Final Chase
In the final phase, Yawie will chase you, using her fire beam in an attempt to finish you off. Your task here is to dodge her attacks while making your way to a dead end. After completing two quick-time events to avoid her strikes, Yawie will become stuck in a wall, giving you a chance to destroy her once and for all.
With the drone out of commission, you’ll need to rely on a Divine Tree Fruit device to finish the job. Fortunately, several Sea People arrive to assist you. Grab a Divine Tree Fruit, place it in the device, and fire the laser to obliterate Yawie.
Epilogue: A Triumphant Return
After the intense battle, you’ll be transported back to Tenzhin’s House, where the Sea People will congratulate you on your victory. They’ll invite you to visit often, marking the completion of the “Cause of the Earthquake” mission and the conclusion of Chapter 7.
Though you’ve reached the end of Chapter 7, there’s still more to explore in “Dave the Diver.” Stay tuned for additional adventures and challenges as you continue your journey in the Giant Blue Hole.
